Photographing the New National Highways Offices at 100 Embankment for Whitfield Brown

Set within one of Manchester’s most recognisable commercial developments, the new offices combine contemporary design with practical functionality, creating an environment that feels open, collaborative and considered from every angle. The brief was to document the completed fit-out in a way that reflected both the architectural quality of the space and the everyday experience of the people who will use it.

From a photography perspective, projects like this are all about balance. Architectural interiors need clean composition, accurate colour and strong attention to detail, but they also need atmosphere. The challenge is to create imagery that feels polished without losing the sense of a real working environment.

The design throughout the National Highways workspace made that process particularly engaging. Natural light floods through the office floors, helping define the textures and finishes used across meeting rooms, breakout spaces and open-plan working areas. Thoughtful lighting design and carefully selected materials added depth and warmth to the final imagery, allowing each area to feel distinct while still connected to the wider scheme.

One of the most striking elements of photographing at 100 Embankment was the relationship between the interior spaces and the surrounding cityscape. The building’s elevated views across Manchester create a strong visual connection between workplace and location, adding another layer of character to the photography. Capturing those moments where architecture, light and environment intersect is always a key part of telling the story of a space.

As with all commercial interior photography, timing and preparation played a huge role in achieving the final results. Careful scheduling allowed me to work through the building methodically, capturing each area at the best time of day for natural light while ensuring the imagery remained consistent across the full set.

The completed photography will now support Whitfield Brown’s portfolio, marketing and communications, helping showcase the scale and quality of the National Highways project at 100 Embankment.

It’s always exciting to work with a new client, particularly on a project of this scale and quality, and I'm looking forward to future collaborations with Whitfield Brown in the months ahead.
